3d Fire Engine Cake

This cake was made for a good friend of mine whose husband just graduated from the fire academy.This was a very difficult cake to create, but I was definitely up to the challenge!I will have to contemplate on whether or not I will ever again make a 3d cake with whipped cream icing as it simply does not hold very well and does not hold color well either. It has a great taste though, and is becoming the most popular of icing flavors. I suppose putting several dowle rods as support should fix the sliding problem.

Anyhow, this was made of a 1/2 sheet a well as a 12" square cake. Both the front and rear portions of the cake have 3 delicious layers of chocolate cake with strawberry filling in between, topped off with a generous layer of yummy, light and fluffy whipped cream icing. My favorite part was the hose hanging off the engine accompanied by a little pool of water :) Needless to say, everybody LOVED the cake :) Thank God, another success!
